Baseball landed in Cuba in the mid 1800’s and has since become the country’s favourite pastime. In 1959, about a week after Fidel Castro seized power, members of Castro’s guerilla army were invited to attend a Havana Sugar Kings game. These guerillas were known as “Barbudos” – the bearded ones.
